Our Net Zero Pathway report for Leiston-cum-Sizewell provides a detailed re-assessment of carbon emissions in the parish. It highlights suggested interventions to progress with reducing carbon emissions. The report can be used by this project and the local community to make a significant reduction in carbon emissions. This report not only supports climate action locally, but also builds on the replicable model which communities can utilise to support the UK’s commitments to addressing climate change. Achieving Net Zero emissions is critically important, both locally and nationally, for tackling global warming and climate change. Climate change is becoming an increasingly significant problem for the planet. Since inception, Net Zero Leiston has made several contributions to local decarbonisation, and this report will support future efforts.

The report provides a breakdown of Leiston-cum-Sizewell’s current emissions across key sectors (land, agriculture, transport and the built environment). Data is compared against our 2019 baseline, allowing for interpretation of key differences in methodology. The increased revised methodology used in this assessment has created some variance in results since 2019 which have been fully explained. The use of more localised data and benchmarks will help to achieve the aims of the project. However, this has led to the suggestion of emissions increasing in Leiston since the previous report, which is not the case. The result is a more accurate picture of the challenge this community (and many like it) are facing. Alongside an emissions breakdown, the report presents modelled ‘Net Zero Pathways’, highlighting suggested interventions to reach Net Zero. These modelled pathways help provide the route community needs to take.

The project remains ambitious in bridging the pathway to Net Zero and will continue to progress with this objective. This continues the journey to a clean, Net Zero future which can be showcased as a national example leading the way in tackling the climate change crisis.
